Assembling the ribs and liners

Ribs glued in place to blocks, liners loosely in place.

Liners consist of small pieces of willow, bent to conform to the shape of the ribs. They serve to strengthen the ribs and provide, with the blocks, a surface for gluing the top and back.
Once glued in place, liners are secured by clothes pins reinforced with rubber bands.

Ribs and liners finished . . . note that mold is in two pieces so that it can be disassembled after the back is glued in place.

Detail of corner with liner mortised into block which will subsequently be carved to match curve of ribs.
